SCHOOL FOR UNOFFICIAL AMBASSADORS
Relaxation -- Between classes the wives and fiancées of US servicemen at the Newport school spent happy hours in the surf. School was organized by Captain C. Gidley, of the Allied Relations Committee, a branch of the Department of Information. Its object is to equip the girls to give talks in America and to answer questions accurstely and authoritatively. Subjects included Australian history, geography, economics, and botany. University lecturers told them about Australia’s position in the world, exports and import population and erosion problems, war record, prospects in the postwar world.
